So, it's officially the holidays... the time where we're out searching for the perfect gifts for all the people we love. Convenience is often our priority, especially when companies like Amazon make it so easy to quickly purchase something and have it delivered ASAP.
We briefly touched about the importance of supporting local businesses on our Facebook page last week. But, I think it's important that we stress it more in a detailed blog post.
Supporting local businesses when you can is always important. Local businesses are what keeps communities afloat and thriving. Not only do they allow community members to socialize and support one another, but it also keeps for more money within your local economy than non-local businesses. For example, when you spend $100 at a local business, about $68 stays within your local community. But, when you spend $100 at a non-local business, only about $43 stays within your local community.
Thus, shopping local supports the community in many different ways including paying wages, local taxes, donations, local services, and local supplies. The holidays are a time where people are shopping more, so lets use this time to utilize and support our friends at our local stores!
I've attached a graphic that goes into this with a bit more detail.
This is why I will continue to support local businesses, and I hope you will continue to, or start implementing them into your routine shopping.
Of course, if you didn't know. We are a handmade jewelry company based in NYC. If you have any interest in supporting us, you can visit our website at Alzerina.com
Happy Thanksgiving to all of our American supporters!
