When it comes to skin care, summer's heat and humidity can put a fault in your well oiled routine. When the temperature reaches 90 and above, the heat and humidity can make face oil hyperactive resulting in more sunburns, bacteria production, pore buildup, etc. These are some tips we have added to our summer routines for fresh, glowing skin.
Mix up your moisturizer
During the summer, the climate is hot and humid, as mentioned before the heat and humidity can make the face oils hyperactive. Winter typically calls for heavier moisturizers that lock in hydration. In the summer these thicker creams can clog pores and make your skin look extra oily. If you experience this, think about switching to a lighter moisturizer to compensate for the hot, muggy air.
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen
Out of everything, do not forget sunscreen! This will protect your skin from UV rays which can cause premature aging and skin cancer. While these benefits focus more on long-term skin health, we also love the instant glow that sunscreen gives your skin which is perfect for a dewey summer look. You can also use a tinted sunscreen which will add some coverage while combining two steps in one.
Diet is key
In order to have that achieve healthy skin, you must incorporate fruits and vegetables to your diet as they contain necessary vitamins and nutrients. Studies show that folic acid and protein can also help to reduce inflammation while things like sugar, alcohol, and red meat can exasperate it.
Hydration = better skin
Drinking water in the summer is not only important for beating the heat, but also to maintain proper skin health. Humans are made up of 60% water, and when we get dehydrated, our skin suffers with dullness, dry and itchy patches, and undereye bags or circles. Some professionals recommend to drink at least eight cups of water per day, while others say that one ounce of water should be drank per every pound of body weight. This might be an intimidating amount of water for some, so we recommend using a straw to slurp while you work, drive, read, etc.
Light and natural makeup
Consider keeping your makeup light and simple. Too much product can cause your makeup to move around during the day, especially in high humidity. We love mixing tinted moisturizer, a light coverage concealer, and some cream blush. Not only does this look more natural and fresh, but it also works better for long-term wear by avoiding the heavy buildup in fine lines, as well as the fading and breakdown that happens when makeup starts to mix with natural skin oils.
